e-CBD’s expert advice on website stuff, Facebook and online marketing…
What! It’s only five weeks to Christmas? Where did the year go? We were about to start desiging an e-CBD Christmas card to send to all our wonderful clients (like you), but we figured that in place of dancing elves, we thought we’d give you something you can actually use this year. So, starting this week, we’re going to send you our five best website and online marketing tips.
There’ll be one tip every week until Santa arrives and the first cab off the rank is a tip on how to claim your Google Places listing.
Google is the most popular website in the world, and according to Google’s PR team, searches for local companies account for about 75% of online activity, making it more important than ever to have a presence in local search results.
Working on the search engine optimisation (SEO) of your website is a good way to make sure you appear when people search for your products and services, but the quickest, easiest way of making it into Google’s search results is with a places listing. It looks a bit like this:
How do you get a Google places listing? Good question.
- Submit or claim your listing: Go to www.google.com/places/ and start the submission process. If your business is already on Google Places, you can do a search and claim the listing from this area.
- Verify your details: Google needs to make sure that your listing is legitimate. There are 3 ways to verify your listing: by phone, postcard or text message. The phone or text method is the fastest way to verify your listing.
- Wait for your details to appear: It takes time for Google to start showing your listing in search results, and in many cases it won’t show up on the first page of Google. Of course, there are things you can do to your listing to improve your chances…
Want to be at the top of the places results?
