Google has been busy rolling out new features within their range of services. These changes may require some important action from you so please read on…

Google Analytics – Email Scheduling Changes

The Google Analytics interface has recently been updated with a range of new features that make it easier to browse vital statistics about your website and its visitors.

Each week, you may have been receiving your Google Analytics report via email. As of June, the old scheduled emailing system will no longer be supported, and each scheduled report will need to be manually configured in order to continue.

If you are a current SEO client, we will update this for you, otherwise to continue receiving Google Analytics reports, you can:

  • Get access to your Analytics account – then you can schedule the reports yourself (or instead login whenever you would like to check your stats). View instructions here
  • Get us to schedule the reports for you. For a minimal fee, we can create a customised report with the features you are currently seeing plus more.
  • Don’t want to receive Analytics reports anymore? Then you don’t have to do a thing – once the update occurs in June, your email will be removed from the current schedule.
  • Are you a current SEO client? You don’t need to worry as we will update this for you as part of your SEO package with new conversion tracking and social media statistics.

Penguin – The Latest Google Algorithm Update

penguinOn 24 April, Google released its latest search algorithm update called Penguin. This update focused on ‘webspam’, which involves any practise that aims to rank a website higher in search engines, purposely using techniques that are against Google’s guidelines and best practise. The Penguin update primarily dealt with devaluing sites that were deemed to be participating in link schemes (or that had an unnatural number of links pointing to them), or websites that were ‘over-optimised’.

We recommend that you check your Google Analytics statistics and if you notice a significant drop in traffic immediately after April 24th, then you may have been hit by the Penguin update. If you think you’ve been hit, we can conduct an SEO audit of your website to see what may have caused this penalty and provide advice on how to fix it and make sure your site is following all best practises and Google’s guidelines.
