Australian Collaborative Lawyers — A case study from e-CBD
Collaborative Law is a new approach to resolving family law disputes — the idea is that seperating partners and their lawyers sit down and agree to make mutually acceptable agreements without resorting to court action. The concept had its beginnings in the USA in the 1990s and has since spread to Australia. Lawyers in five Australian states have subsequently set up collaborative law associations and e-CBD has been brought on board to develop and manage a national network of brochures, logos and websites to give collaborative law in Australia a unified front.
Each site features the usual details about the organisation, plus a member directory, and a secure area where members can keep their details up to date and communicate with each other via an internal messaging system. e-CBD designed all the sites, managed the branding of the organisations and created logos for each state.
The five websites were launched in March 2007 by Federal Attorney General Phillip Ruddock within the Family Court building in Sydney, witnessed by the court's Chief Justice, Diana Bryant, who spoke via a video link-up from Melbourne (read more about the launch at http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2007/s1861944.htm). So far, everyone has been incredibly happy with the work we did. As Colleen Brown from Legal Aid WA put it: "You guys are legends. We think you're fabulous…"
